According to the sources, PM Shahbaz Sharif has approved the creation of a new department, the “DCD” Digital Communication Department, to monitor social media activity online and to create counter-narratives against anti-state activities. Funds of 530 million will be released for the new department’s creations on 19th December 2024.
Furthermore, under this department, the government will monitor and track real-time online anti-state activities, and the department will address National Security threats, DCD will enhance the government’s ability to detect digital threats. Any anti-state activities and social media users can be tracked easily under this department.
For the creation of a new department, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which will be released tomorrow hopefully soon, has demanded urgent funds from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and the ECC might approve these funds by tomorrow. Initially, 54 positions have been finalized for the Digital Communication Department.
According to tech experts and analysts, such kinds of departments can take action within the country, but they cannot take any action against anti-state activities of the users who are using social media from other countries.
