ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Friday announced a decrease in electricity rates for consumers nationwide under the monthly Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA).
As per the official notification, the national average fuel charge adjustment (FCA) has been electricity rates decreased by Rs. 2.1240 per unit, making its actual value based on the reference rate decline to Rs. 10.8860 per kWh, against an earlier reference rate of Rs. 13.0100 per kWh.
According to the notification, electricity rates for Karachi consumers have been cut down by Rs. 3 per unit, while the rates of electricity for the consumers of other parts of the country are reduced by Rs. 2.12 per unit. NEPRA decided to notify the adjustments separately, saying that the consumers would get relief in their electricity bills for March.
The cut for K-Electric consumers takes effect under the December 2024 monthly adjustment, while the cut for other consumers across the country comes under the January 2025 adjustment.
Excluding lifeline consumers, protected consumers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), and prepaid consumers, this FCA reduction applies to the vast majority of contract categories.
The federal government last month restored the benefit of fuel cost adjustments to electricity consumers consuming up to 300 units and agricultural tube-wells in a bid to reduce the financial burden on households and farmers.
In June 2015, the reduction in fuel adjustment charges was first stopped for consumers of up to 300 units, said an official of the Power Division. NEPRA has directed Ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs) to confirm compliance with court orders while applying the new rates.
