PTA has provided important information on Starlink, a satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk’s second SpaceX, for the establishment of the business in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The PTA revealed that Starlink had proposed to implement its license on February 24, 2022, during a briefing to the Federal Assembly’s Standing Committee chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan. The company is currently organized in cooperation with a major supervisory body to gather the requirements to operate in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Starlink must first register with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and complete the procedure with the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) to move forward. The PTA pointed out that licenses cannot be renewed until the initial stage and administrative clearance have been completed.

The PTA further confirms that Starlink guarantees compliance with all national regulations and guidelines. The remainder of the authority is devoted to a thorough review method to ensure the service complies with Pakistan’s regulatory framework.

Another player, Shanghai Space Instruments, is also trying to penetrate Pakistan’s market, perhaps increasing Internet infrastructure and technological development. This is an exciting time for the State’s electronic development.

Concerns related to oversight of space technologies were also raised by the Standing Committee which invited SUPARCO, a Pakistani space study organization, to discuss the development of a supervisory model similar to programs.

Elon Musk has previously expressed interest in transporting Starlink to Pakistan, stating that he expects government blessing. Many see the arrival of Starlink as a game changer for internet connection in remote areas of the State as a guarantee for faster and more reliable service.

Starlink, a project by SpaceX, uses low Earth orbit satellites to provide high-speed internet globally, with a focus on reaching underserved regions. Its scheduled entry into Pakistan could particularly improve the nation’s digital landscape, presenting new opportunities for connectivity and development.
