BOL News Pakistan: Police have completed the inquiry report of the tragic death of Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar, declaring him to have committed suicide. The inquiry committee, sources said, took the statements of Adeel’s driver, operator, and doctors who treated him, and collectively they all verified that a well-placed cop had been a victim of deep psychological stress.

According to the report, medical evidence revealed that SP Adeel Akbar was under chronic stress, which was not related to any recent incident. Still, it was compounded emotional pressures combined with professional issues. Those who carry deep-seated stress, their doctor said, bear the burden from past events that have not been resolved.

On 8th October, Adeel Akbar went to see his doctor for a check-up and seemed calm and collected — “He actually said, ‘I’m happy here,’” Grohman recalled. But the doctor said Akbar was frustrated over stalled promotions and had described suicidal thoughts repeatedly.

He had asked his family to keep weapons and sharp objects out of his reach. The investigation also revealed that SP Akbar had gone through a two-year departmental inquiry in Balochistan conducted by SSP Maroof.

The then Additional Inspector General had punished him over that inquiry, and he remained without two promotions. Akbar was posted in Islamabad after six weeks to uplift him on the advice of his course-mate SP Khurram, and a shoulder promotion was given as SP Industrial Area.

Recently, he performed duty in AJK during the upheaval there, but did not engage in the Muridke operation against Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, a religious party.

Police findings reveal that 90 minutes before his death, he was cruising for about thirty-five minutes before returning to the house. He then proceeded to the Secretariat for a meeting with a Section Officer that was cancelled. The same day, he also went to the Foreign Office.
