The federal government of Pakistan has warned Google Chrome users that precise browser versions might have vulnerabilities that allow hackers to access a user’s computer or device.
These vulnerabilities can be seriously damaging and could lead to DDoS attacks and “Remote Code Execution” (RCE) via HTML websites. Google Chrome users must keep their Google Chrome up-to-date and take the essential safeguards to protect their devices.
However, in this regard, Google has released a security patch for its Chrome Browser in its recent software version to address a significant vulnerability, CVE-2023-4863, a buffer surge in the WebP code library.
The authorities of Pakistan have sent an advisory to federal and provincial governments about an upgrade to the Chrome browser. Google Chrome users on Mac and Linux can now upgrade to version 116.05845.187, while Windows users can upgrade to version 116.05845.187.188.
The advisory urges all Google Chrome users to update their browsers to the latest versions available from official sources. Islamabad’s cabinet division has also requested that all relevant ministries, institutions, and departments be notified and enforce prophylactic measures.
