Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesman, Tahir Andarabi, has refuted media reports about plans for a visit by Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir to the United States.
In response to a question about the upcoming visit of Field Marshal Asim Munir to the United States and a likely meeting with the US president in Washington during the weekly media briefing at the foreign office on Thursday, Tahir Andarabi said it was not on the agenda right now.
Regarding the visit of the COAS and CDS to the US, as of today, no information is available. “I’ve seen the reports, but I don’t have anything to share with you,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that, in its report on Wednesday, the international news agency Reuters said that Pakistan’s Intelligence chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, will visit Washington shortly and meet with US President Donald Trump. Quoting sources, Reuters said that the deployment of Pakistani troops to a Gaza peace force would be among the topics to be discussed at the meeting.
To a question by another journalist, Tahir Andarabi, once again referring to the Reuters report, asked whether Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit was planned. Tahir replied that he could deny the report in a way that suggests his visit has already been arranged and confirmed. “So, I am not going to deny that,” he replied.
The spokesman repeated his stand for the second time: “I don’t have any information on such a visit. “If there is any such visit, we will wait for an official announcement by the Government of Pakistan.
Pakistan’s political and military leadership keeps visiting capitals. When an official visit is planned, we make an official announcement in advance. No such visit to Washington has been planned so far.
