According to the Bol News Pakistan, Pakistani delegation at a major conference between Afghanistan and Russian special representatives in Tehran Conference expressed serious concerns about terrorism and also emphasised that the security threats faced by Pakistan were quite substantial.
Details emerged on Sunday, the Pakistani delegation at the Tehran conference was headed by Muhammad Sadiq, Special Envoy for Afghanistan. The members of the delegation also included Pakistan’s ambassadors to Tehran and Kabul, Mudassir Tipu and Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, delivered the keynote address to open the meeting. The Pakistani delegation, sources said told the world body that peace in Afghanistan was in the common interest of the whole region. Islamabad is dedicated to peace, development and durable security in the region.
Abbasi also quoted the college as saying that a confrontation between Pakistan and Afghanistan would be “awful” for Iran as well. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqai told a news conference that any escalation in tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan “will be grave for Iran”. Iran has common borders with both countries.
Ismail Baqai said Iran has, in turn, respected the Taliban regime’s “policy” not to participate in the Tehran conference, but that such regional forums could help encourage mutual understanding and dialogue. They can help address problems between Afghanistan and its neighbors.
The Pakistani special envoy for Afghanistan also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. They discussed high-level ties between Pakistan and Iran during the meeting. Muhammad Sadiq and Abbas Araghchi sat down on the sidelines of the conference in Tehran.
Araghchi said Iran is determined to boost ties with Pakistan. The Iranian FM thanked Pakistan for its role in promoting peace and stability in the region. He also appreciated Iran for hosting the meeting and expressed hope that it would contribute to securing peace, stability, and development in the region.
